When Time Becomes a Commodity

The performance investigates human alienation caused by the working system in a capitalist industry. Particularly in the evolution of scientific management, known as "Taylorism," time was an essential variable for organizing and controlling labor. To achieve maximum efficiency in production in the least amount of time, body movement and workspace had to be minimized, often overlooking human nature.

At the specific site of Haggerston Park, where a factory once stood, a working situation in a capitalist industrial system was simulated. Six spectators participated in the performance, enacting repetitive tasks under the scientific management approach controlled by the supervisor. This focused on how reducing body motion and space affects workers, reflecting the dehumanisation in production lines.
